STEELE Canvas Corporation

I have been using STEELE Canvas products for a very long time. I've mostly used the large 'laundry trucks' at the cottage and the tote bags since the 70's. I've found the tote bags hold up better than the big name-brand totes. I've found they hold their stiffness longer---I like that. I like the tote to be able to stand up on it's own so that when I set it down to add items to it, it...stays...put; it's much easier to load than a tote that has collapsed and I have to bend down and keep it open. As I get older, I appreciate the little things more. The nice bonus about STEELE is all of their products are made in the U.S.A. and are made to order. Yes, this takes a bit longer to arrive but it's worth it. I'd like to post a few of my favourite items from STEELE. Their log carrier is phenomenal. Recently, one of my pups hurt his paw. I used the log carrier to lift him into the Jeep and off we went to the vet so, it has all kinds of uses other th

Sprucing Up For Summer in Maine

South Porch When the old pillows just can't take any more of a beating you have to buy new. The red cushion is from Wayfair---  I didn't like the selection at L. L. Bean. I wanted plain and simple so I chose red with white piping. The whale pillow is from Nantucket Bound. The blue and white pillow is from IKEA. The wicker is eleven years old(?) and purchased at Frazee's in Searsport, Maine in a Bar Harbor style. For $149.00 it's held up to quite a few summer parties and drunken guests.

The Original L. L. Bean Store

Oh, how I miss the old store before it turned into Maine's Disneyland.  (photo source: Maine Connection).

Harsh Maine Winters

Kudos to the roofers who worked all fall and winter to replace the roof. These last two winters were just too much for the old roof. I was happy to support these fine workers who normally don't have many projects in the winter. What a hardy lot they were working in the elements to get this done before their busy season.  New Roof 2021. The projects never seem to end. Next up: repointing the chimneys.

Andrew Wyeth: Breakup

“I prefer winter and fall when you feel the bone structure of the landscape. Something waits beneath it; the whole story doesn’t show.” — Andrew Wyeth Breakup . 1994; Andrew Wyeth I'm patiently waiting for the breakup  up at the lake. I think next year I'll find someone to keep the road into camp open so I can enjoy some winter at the lake. It would've been nice to quarantine next to a roaring fire enjoying the view.  Screen capture from my neighbour's Live Cam  this morning. It won't be long for the roads to be open.
